North West Regional Construction Awards 2015

Vextrix are celebrating the success of being selected as finalists in the North West Regional Construction Awards 2015.

Working closely with Northern Rail Estates Department, Vextrix were Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors for the refurbishment of Blackburn Station and have been recognised for the excellent work undertaken.

Northern Rail's Head of Estates Alan Tisdell commented; "...once again Vextrix have delivered a quality product which will go a long way to enhance the customer experience at Blackburn Station. Our short listing shows our commitment to delivering enhanced customer service throughout our station portfolio..."

Northern Rail were able to make striking changes to the main station entrance and concourse at Blackburn Station. The existing facility was in a tired state and in need of modernisation to ensure the station complimented the major investment being undertaken on the Cathedral Quarter site to the front of Blackburn Station.

As a Grade II listed building, care had to be taken to ensure that our modern proposals for the concourse area were sympathetic to the existing heritage features.

The project was delivered 5% under budget and with a funding being provided by the National Station Improvement Programme and Railway Heritage Trust.

Vextrix Director, Phillip Marsden says "We are delighted to learn of the Award shortlisting and to see our hard work being recognised. Northern Rail are a key client of ours and we have been working closely with them since our establishment in 2009. Blackburn Station was an enjoyable, smoothly ran project thanks to the efforts of the project team and just one of many that we have undertaken for Northern Rail in the last six years."
