International Women in Engineering Day

It’s international women in Engineering day! We’re proud to have fantastic female engineers on our team and this year we want to encourage more young women into engineering by putting the spotlight on Jekaterina Seklucka one of our female Assistant Design Services Technicians!

Can you tell us about what your role in Engineering involves?

My role is Assistant Design Services Technician and my key responsibilities include assisting the Design Services team with designs and detailed drawings. Additionally, I assist with the compilation of tender and contract documentation. I’m a creative person with a bachelor’s degree in architectural design and technology and I use the skills I have in Auto CAD and Revit software to create detailed drawings and exterior and interior designs of the structure of buildings.

Which kinds of projects do you enjoy working on the most?

I have been working at Vextrix for just 4 months and I’ve already worked on some big, exciting projects. My first project was really exciting, it gave me the opportunity to be involved in 3D modelling from a Point Cloud. I really enjoyed working with the Point Cloud and tracing and modelling the designs of the spaces. The experience working from the Point Cloud has meant I have really developed my knowledge and skills in such a short space of time, as previously I would produce my 3D modelling from floor plan CAD drawings.

What route did you take to your role in Engineering?

In November 2022 I graduated from the University of Salford. My role at Vextrix has been my first opportunity to put everything I have learnt from my degree into practice and it has been a great place to start my career.

Would you recommend a career in Engineering to other young women?

Of course. I think a lot of people think the roles in the construction industry are usually male jobs, but women should not see this as an obstacle. Actually there are a lot of women working in construction in a role they really enjoy like me! I would say if you are a person who enjoys working with design, documents, scans, and reports take a look of the career in engineering.

What key skills do you need if you’re thinking about a career in a role like yours?
  • Technical Competence and Creativity
  • Multitasking skills
  • Planning and organisation skills
How does your team support and encourage you?

It’s a pleasure to work at Vextrix. The team are very friendly and always ready to help and support me when I need it. It was hard in the beginning because everything was new for me but everyone on the team supported me and helped me learn new skills, especially in developing how I use Revit.

How important is it that you feel supported and encouraged as a female Engineer?

You don’t feel lonely. At Vextrix everyone is supported and encouraged but having male support in what is normally associated with as a male profession has helped me gain a lot of confidence.

How would you describe your role at Vextrix?

I have fulfilled my dream. I have my dream profession in a job that I love and Vextrix has given me the opportunity to level up my profession with new skills and experiences.
