Leicester Bus Depot EV Project
Vextrix has been appointed by our client First Group to provide Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveying services on the Leicester Bus Depot EV Infrastructure project, to oversee the installation of new infrastructure for electric chargers at the depot. The electric buses and charging points are being introduced to the city’s Greenlines electric network and are partially funded by the department for Transport’s Zero Emissions Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme.
The team are responsible for:
During the tender process the team received tender return prices which were significantly higher than the clients budget. To resolve this, the team worked alongside the design team and preferred contractor to undertake a Value Engineering exercise to reduce the costs and bring the total to within the client’s budget.
Post-construction, the team assisted the client in securing additional funding to allow the depot to support a full EV fleet of buses, providing cost advice to ensure that sufficient funding would be provided and requesting (via a variation) a price from the main contractor to undertake the works. The assistance from the team meant the client was able to reduce costs long term and further their commitment to Net Zero.
The project has been well received by the local authority, gaining interest from local councillors who have been impressed by the quality of the works and the value the project brings to the borough. The whole project team has worked together collaboratively that has meant a successful delivery of the project.
