Building a more inclusive experience

Back

We are excited to announce our latest development in our commitment to inclusivity with the introduction of a web accessibility and language toolbar. Our commitment means we are always looking at ways we can improve access to our services.

There are currently one in five people living in the UK that have a disability, including common conditions such as sight loss and dyslexia that means they are faced with challenges when accessing websites and online content. Challenges with accessing online content are also faced by the one in ten people in the UK who do not speak English as their first language.

Our investment in the Recite Me software means we are pleased to be removing some of the barriers faced by these visitors. The tools allow for a customised experience, meaning visitors can view our website and interact with us in a way that best suits them.

The software acts as a button on every page of our website which, when clicked gives a full range of options that will improve their user experience.

The toolbar gives options to:

  • Have the text on our website read aloud (including PDFs)
  • Download our website text as an MP3 file
  • Change font sizes and colours
  • Customise background colours
  • Translate text into more than 100 different languages
  • Access a fully integrated dictionary and thesaurus
