Vextrix Hosts First Event in Sponsorship of Young Rail Professionals

Our First Event

As part of our sponsorship, Vextrix hosted two events, held at our London and Manchester offices. These events showcased the cutting-edge technologies and digital innovations driving our  Scan to BIM service area, showcasing how tools like artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) are transforming the industry.

Attendees had the opportunity to hear from key members of Vextrix’s Design Services Team: David Murray, Andrew Rycroft, and Tom O’Malley, who shared their expertise on:

• 3D Scanning and Survey Equipment
• Virtual Walkthroughs with platforms like Matterport
• Google Maps Integration for accessibility and planning
• Pointcloud Data and its critical role in asset management, planning, and design
• Building Information Modelling (BIM) as a foundation for streamlined station development [link to service page]

Interactive Learning Opportunities

The events included breakout seminars where attendees engaged in hands-on learning and explored:

• Virtual Reality Applications: Participants toured a fully 3D-modelled train station, experiencing first-hand how VR can benefit station development by visualising design concepts, adding a new layer to stakeholder collaboration, and smoothing out decision-making processes.
• Pointclouds and Asset Management: Attendees learned about the data capture process and its applications in improving efficiency and accuracy in rail projects.

Attending on the day, members from YRP’s team attended giving us a chance to meet our collaborators face to face for the first time. Reflecting on the event, Connacht Sheffield, Vice Chair of YRP London & South-East, remarked:
