First Bus Glasgow

Phase 1 - Glasgow Bus Electrification

Back

First Bus Glasgow are leading the way with their ambitious sustainable road travel map. This project follows their pledge to invest in only zero emission vehicles from 2022 and a commitment to having a 100% zero-emission fleet by 2035.

This project will renovate the Glasgow Caledonia bus Depot into the largest Electric Vehicle (EV) charging hub in the UK.  Having built a long standing relationship with the client Vextrix have been engaged to provide Quantity Surveying and Contract Administrator Services on this ambitious scheme that, once completed will be a fundamental step for First Bus in their sustainable travel roadmap. The depot is currently the largest bus depot in the UK and on completion of this development it will have space for up to 300 EV buses on site.

The team were engaged at the feasibility design stage, giving the client the support they required when it came to commercial management and providing assistance and support throughout the contract process. Drawing from experience in delivering successful construction projects, our team were able to support the client prior to entering into the contract and throughout the process due to previous work delivering complex schemes. Engagement at this stage of the project meant that the team gave the client a quiet mind and the confidence in our team to drive the project forward.

Added Value

The team continue to work with the client, contractor and other consultants to ensure First Bus delivery aspirations are met on this project while working within the budgetary constraints. The works are being delivered on a live bus depot and our experience of undertaking major projects on live sites is invaluable in foreseeing and mitigating any risks that may occur.

Integration with the design team from the outset was key and our team are key contributors to weekly project progress meetings. As part of these meetings the team identified areas that could be improved to deliver the best value for the client and a successful project overall. One of the areas identified was the need for a change in lighting between vehicles on the site. Recommending the change to task lighting meant that the site will be the best fit for the purpose of the project once completed.

Currently in phase one of the project the team are undertaking a key role in this ambitious project, providing the client with support and advice and delivering a project that will have a huge impact on the local community of Glasgow.
