MIG Medical Installations

CDM and health and safety compliance support at Manchester Royal Infirmary

Back

Vextrix provided CDM and health and safety compliance support to MIG Medical Installations during the refurbishment of an MRI technician’s room at Manchester Royal Infirmary.

As the works were carried out within a live hospital environment, careful planning and coordination were needed to ensure the refurbishment could be completed safely without affecting day-to-day hospital operations.

Acting in support of MIG’s Principal Designer and Principal Contractor duties, Vextrix played a key role in overseeing compliance, advising on health and safety management, and supporting the coordination of safe working practices throughout the project.

Delivering CDM and Health & Safety Compliance in a Live Healthcare Environment

During pre-construction, Vextrix advised on CDM and compliance requirements and prepared the pre-construction information, taking account of the constraints associated with an operational MRI facility. Existing surveys were reviewed alongside a site survey to identify project-specific risks, including those linked to patient safety, infection control, and working alongside clinical equipment. A hazard and risk register was developed, and the F10 notification was completed in line with statutory requirements.

Throughout the construction phase, Vextrix carried out site inspections and supported the preparation of COSHH and task-specific risk assessments. The construction phase plan was developed to reflect access restrictions, phased working, and the management of noise, dust, and disruption within occupied areas of the hospital.

On completion, Vextrix compiled the Health and Safety file and the Operation and Maintenance manual. Drawing on the team’s industry experience delivering Health and Safety Advisory and CDM consultation services across a range of sectors and site environments, Vextrix provided trusted support to MIG Medical Installations, contributing to the safe delivery of the works within a live hospital setting.
